ArtSpace #1: Coming Monday!

art II, originally uploaded by Ian T West.
While Ditmas Park is primarily known for its gorgeous Victorians, there is also a growing artistic community here that demands attention. At the Ditmas Park Blog, we wanted to do something to highlight that. So, this past spring, we put out a call for artists and got an incredible response from a wide range of artists – painters, photographers, writers, musicians, graphic artists, and more. We even heard from a weaver! And, beginning next Monday, August 22, we’re going to be introducing some of those artists and their work to you.
We asked five of these neighborhood artists to create something based on a neighborhood-related theme. For our first week, the theme is an iconic element of Ditmas Park – porches. What they create is entirely up to them. The only caveat is that it should be inspired by the theme in some way and should be created specifically for the blog. We’ll post a new work each day along with a brief profile of the artist. Hopefully, you’re as excited to see what the neighborhood can come up with as we are!
Since it’s always a huge risk for any artist to put their work out into the world, we’d like to add a special request about commenting. As always, you’re welcome to add your thoughts whether they be positive or negative. However, please keep comments on these posts constructive. All the artists involved are generously donating their time and talents to the blog. We’d like to return this generosity by providing them a space to receive thoughtful, respectful feedback.
Look for ArtSpace #1 all next week, and if you’d like to participate in future ArtSpace series, please email the following to dpblogavi@gmail.com:
Your name
Your email address, phone number, and website (if you have one)
Where you live (cross streets are fine)
