this was so much fun- THANK YOU for helping to make this happen. Just sitting on the curb, watching my baby play in the sprinkler and have neighbors dancing, making street art, and hanging out around us was a memorable way to spend some time yesterday. I loved it.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out! We had a great time and collected over 65 surveys yesterday (plus another 50 online so far).
But enough joking. I am singing. This is all my life. —Placido Domingo There is an annoying new habit that ha crept into this house. Every time one of us gets up from the computer, Noah goes running into our seats to take it. If you get up to go to the bathroom, he is […]
Onions and yeast, ah the smell of it makes me droolyOnions and wheat never go out of season (really just have a long shelf life) nor do they go out of style. In the dead of winter a hot loaf of bread is a breath of fresh air. Focaccia is a non-baker's friend. Its just pizza dough with extra oil. You don't have to knead if you have a food processor, […]
If you have not noticed, I have changed out the image at the head of this blog. This is something I hope to do from time to time. Every so often I get the urge to work in digital collage. It gives me an opportunity to flex my visual muscles and execute the result instantly […]
My son has gone to the Brooklyn Free School for eight years. He is now set to graduate and has applied to six colleges for September. We are digging deeper into the dog days of winter, which means we must dig for our food too. 3 varieties of potatoes, daikon, two kinds of onion, garlic, beets, carrots, turnips. I'm gonna list this down below, that's a tubular amount of tubers. I'm glad for the 2 spots of green collards […]
ALRIGHT THEN….i have rarely felt so fired up as i have the moment i heard that the susan g. komen breast cancer charity had made some politically-motivated back-room board deal/manipulation to pull funding from planned parenthood. and then listened to them spin spin spin during the vertigo-inspiring fall-out. but most people, it turns out, have […]

I just spent an intensive weekend with the CIA. That’s the Culinary Institute of America, not the Central Intelligence Agency. So, to clarify further, I was in Hyde Park, NY, rather than Langley, VA, and I was happy to be present at the CIA where the food may be grilled but the “guests” are not. […]
