Daffodil Project

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Over the last 4-5 years, we’ve been planting daffodils in the neighborhood as part of the Daffodil Project – along Cortelyou, Beverley, and I think a few on Newkirk. It is time to order more bulbs, and you can do it too – the deadline is September 22:

Click on this link, and fill out the form to request your bulbs. The bulbs are free to anyone who commits to planting them in a park or public space. They get distributed on October 3, right in time for planting.

Don’t plant them in Prospect Park. They don’t want people just planting stuff in there on their own, despite what the folks at Daffodil Project say. I recounted my guerilla bulb-planting in my blog A Year in the Park, and the park management passed along from their horticulture team the earnest entreaty for folks NOT to do freelance gardening there. It initially sounded ungracious, but it’s a blanket policy meant to keep people from sticking in potentially invasive species, etc.

What about the green areas around the Parade grounds?
