Winter CSA Options

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

There are two community supported agriculture (CSA) options available this winter in the neighborhood, and they’re both pretty different. Here’s how they work:

Flatbush Farm Share
What you get: Variable levels of amounts and varieties of food. Options include storage vegetables, packages of frozen vegetables, salad and cooking greens (as weather allows), yogurt, cheese, eggs, and tempeh.
Cost: A Single Share of vegetables (for 1‐2 people) is priced between $56 and $245 on a sliding scale, dairy and tempeh cost more. You are required to volunteer at one 2-hour shift at pick-up.
Pick-up: Saturdays, 11/19, 12/3, 12/17, 1/7, 1/21/ 2/4, 9am-12pm, at Flatbush Reformed Church.
Deadline: Sign up (available online here) by Wednesday, November 2.

Nextdoorganics
What you get: No veggies (they do grow them in the summer at various locations), but instead you’ll get fresh bread from Roberta’s, farm cheeses, organic eggs, and selections from some of Brooklyn’s small-batch food producers like Anarchy in a Jar, That’s My Jam, Pie Corps, Sour Puss Pickles, and more.
Cost: Four levels, flexible. The low-end is $20/week for 1/2 catron organic eggs, 1 loaf of bread, 1 cheese, and 1 pantry item; the high end is $50/week for 1 carton organic eggs, 2 loaves of bread, 2 cheeses, 4 pantry items. No volunteering required, opt-out any time.
Pick-Up: Every Monday starting 10/31, 7-8pm, at Sycamore.
Deadline: Sign up (available online here) by Wednesday at 9am for the following Monday pick up, but you can sign up on the spot too.

Addition Nearby Options
* Two different CSAs both have pick-ups at Brooklyn Commune in Windsor Terrace.
* The Cortelyou Greenmarket stays open all winter long.
