A Peek Inside Whisk

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Whisk Bakery Cafe, on the corner of Newkirk Avenue and Westminster Road, is getting closer to opening. I stopped inside today, and owner Joshua Rubin said the space should be ready by the end of the month.

Whisk will be brewing Massachusetts-based George Howell Coffee, which can also be found in Brooklyn at Southside Coffee. The company’s Janet Hoshino was on site, and she poured me a delicious sample, sweet and smooth.

Besides coffee, Josh said he’ll have a full-time baker preparing breads and pastries, and he hopes to serve sandwiches and snacks to appeal to both the teachers at lunch and students after school coming from across the street at PS 217–not to mention all the other folks in the neighborhood. He’s also hoping to host film screening, art showings, trivia nights, and music performances in the space.

We’ll keep you posted to an exact opening date!

Best of luck, Josh. The thought of a decent espresso one block from home is pretty exciting. Hopefully Whisk will stock healthy/savory pastry in addition to the usual sweet stuff.

It’s been great to see the progress here – I’m excited to have a coffee place just around the corner from us!

    Hi,

No we are not related to the store Whisk found in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They are called solely Whisk and feature kitchen and bath supplies; our store is called Whisk Bakery Cafe and is an eatery and art space.

I’m so excited! I saw them working two nights ago and was thrilled to see it will be a bakery shop and not another halal meat market! Wish them all the success! Looking forward to the shop!
