Mexican Hot Chocolate

With highs in the 40s the past two days, our hint of Spring is definitely gone for the rest of the week. The wind is making it feel like 22 degrees right now, and the low will hit 14 tonight. It’s a nice time to warm up with a Mexican hot chocolate from Salud on Avenue H (they also have a coconut version), or a hot drink from any number of places within a couple minutes’ walk. What’s your favorite local winter drink?

Wow that looks delicious. I haven’t tried their hot chocolate before but now I’ll have to swing by there to check it out!

I third, fourth, fifth the vote for Salud. Their fiesta chicken wrap is sensational, as is their chicken soup. (Sometimes on weekends they even deliver!)

It’s a great place run by a great local family. We love you, Salud!

The americano at Qathra is awesome. Madeleine does a great one, too. My favorite drink at Salud is actually more appropriate for summer – the Lucha Libre. Perfect recovery drink after a rigorous class at Midwood Martial Arts around the corner!

Mocha at Qatra are to die for. I am way beyond addicted to it.

Where on Ave H is Salud?

  • Seth

From the column you learn something new everyday…

Since the major reconstruction of the Ave H train station I don’t get off or on at H anymore, easier to go to Newkirk. I had no idea this place existed after looking at the menu and browsing yelp, this place looks like a winner.
I will be stopping there on my next occasion for some MHC.

Salud is actually the closest real restaraunt to my house. I find the juices meh and overpriced but the sandwiches are quite tasty.

I second the Americano at Qathra, though. It tastes like pure win; I don’t even need to add sugar or sweetener, which is a prerequisite in most coffee for me.

Love the cafe au lait from Madeline!!! Especially when I also get the ham/cheese croissant.
