Kumo’s express chefs whip up Japanese delicacies drawn from a diverse menu of sushi, hibachi, and traditional cooked fare. Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna form a tongue-searing crunch in the restaurant’s signature Kumo roll ($13), and the spicy mango lobster roll landlocks shellfish salad and black tobiko between a blanket of sliced mango and a plate the color of a freshly bleached T-shirt ($12).

The coupon expires December 21, 2011.

    NICE POST

  • Ditmasresident

Has anyone eaten pizza at San Remo during the past seven (7) to ten (10) days? I bought two (2) slices last Saturday and they were not as good as in the past. Specifically, the slices had no flavor, and I did not see or taste any tomatoe sauce. I was very surprised because Sam Remo’s pizza has always been good.

I dont know about the rest of you, but i’ve been thoroughl disapointed with the restaurants around ditmas. When the new places started moving in a few years ago i was really excited, there was a lot of buzz in the media, but now that i am paying closer attention i see that they are almos all falling far short of expectations. Have you looked closely at the report card grades? All your local favorites for the most part have not done so well, and are covering this up by slyly putting the report card at angles not easily seen, or even more deceptively have not even put up the card at all. Come on thats pretty lame and a shame for the rest of the residents of this neighborhood.

Ive noticed that among the people i talk to they have started to decrease the eating in the neighborhood and going to other hoods. I wonder if this is the start of a larger trend

I agree that some local restaurants fail to live up to the hype surrounding them. However, I base this on the experiences I’ve had eating there. I don’t based it on their “report cards” and would never take such cards into account when trying to size up a restaurant. I think the whole idea of giving out these cards is silly. The reality is, there are probably more harmful bacteria on your hands RIGHT NOW than on all the cockroaches and mouse droppings in the dirtiest restaurant in NYC.

We were also excited about the new restaurants.  But other than San Remo, Cafe Tibet and Oxcart, we tend to go south: Taci’s Beyte, Cafe Glechik, Tatiana, Limon, Istanbul, Chikurin.  We find Farm, Kumo, Yam too expensive, and forget about Picket Fence since the Meyerson’s left.  Do like the “coffee and” at Quathra and Catskill.

what?! thats crazy. The Farm, San Remo, Mimi’s Hummus and Cafe Tibet are all awesome. Connecticut Muffin, Catskill and Qathra are all fine establishments. Sycamore has been bringing great music and events to the hood. I cant speak for Kumo since I havent eaten there but their food looks pretty good. As for letter grades… first of all, The Farm, Qathra and Mimis all have A’s. And really who cares what a places letter grade is? If it wasnt safe to eat at they would be shut down. Get the stick out of your ass and go back to manhattan if you feel that way.

some of the places being mentioned have chosen not to display their report card rather than display it and lose customers. Is that the place you want to eat at?

Listen, I hear what you are saying and I’d like to support all the local businesses, but in general the prices are overly high and the quality is questionable.

There, someone had to say it.

  • Art Vandelay

I could be wrong about this, but once a restaurant has received it’s “grade card”, aren’t they REQUIRED to display it? I thought that was the whole point.

Prices are REALLY high, it’s very annoying. Generally, I’m priced out of eating in my own neighborhood.
