Meredith sends over this image by Matthew Schuerman, and encourages everyone to stop by Kings Candy & Nuts on Newkirk Plaza (on the West side of the plaza, roughly halfway between Subway and Chase:

This store offers a number of interesting Turkish provisions (such as jars of our new favorite honey and nut condiment, perfect for yogurt, plus it looks like evil eye amulets in a jar!). They also sell simits, which are Turkish sesame seed studded bread rings, perfect breakfast on the go. They’ve also got the more obvious staples such as organic milk and yogurt, and of course the eponymous candy and nuts.

It’s a friendly small business and we, two Turkophiles, hope to see them to succeed!

Do stop by!

I don’t know if their food is same quality as Trader Joe’s & Wholefood, but it looks like they are ready to give their marketing team a run for the money.

This endless construction project at the plaza is an absolute nightmare for the merchants there, so I’m happy to give them all the business I can. I’m even going to force my son over to Leon’s for a haircut.

I just hope they’re able to hold on until the renovation is over. Right now that’s such an unpleasant environment.

Definitely make an effort to stop by. They have a great selection (love the honey & nuts too) and are super helpful & nice guys!!

Great baklava (and closer than Damascus Bakery). Plus lots of yummy cookies from other countries (cookies from other countries have ZERO calories, little known fact*). And they have Green Mountain coffee on tap.

    * And completely untrue. But still. Cookies!

I love these guys. Great nuts and dried fruit at half the price of the co-op (granted they’re probably not organic, but that doesn’t bother me as much as spending $13 for a lb of pecans). My other regular purchases include jam and nutella. And I second the deliciousness of the baklava. Totally charming place!

I’m a big fan! They have all sorts of cool stuff and the cheapest price for organic milk in the neighborhood, by far!

Love love love. The food, the store, the people that work there. I shop there every chance I get.

When the chocolate covered nuts are fresh, they are heavenly.

I’ll check out anyplace with really FRESH nuts. And from the look of that sign, these are some fresh nuts! (Groucho eye-waggle)

Let’s hear it for Brenda from Flatbush, everybody! She’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip your bartender! ;)

They have the *best* nut brittles–better and much cheaper than Whole Foods. Their dried fruits are also excellent, especially the dried strawberries. And the shopkeepers are very friendly and welcoming.

The place is great, the prices good and the service really friendly, but it’s not really fair to compare to WF or TJ, until they put ingredients on the bulk products.

I’ve been a sucker for their dark chocolate almonds which are about 1/3 of the price of the other places, but they taste “junkier” and I suspect they’ve got extra sugar, corn-syrup and (gulp) hydrogenated oils.

Green and Black organic chocolate bars are fresh and melt in the mouth, unlike the ones I purchased from Shoprite. I’m definitely going back for more.
