King’s Candy and Nuts

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

King’s Candy and Nuts, a nice new store specializing in – candy and nuts – opened a couple of weeks ago on the West side of Newkirk Plaza. They have large bins of dried fruit, nuts, chocolate and other candies along one wall; shelves of canned and jarred goodies, and will have a cold drinks in their fridge in the next few days. In the meantime, they have hot Green Mountain Coffee you can grab to go along with some baklava. Kabir, the young man behind the register, said that the hours are Monday – Saturday from 7:00AM-9:00PM and Sundays from 9:00AM till 7:00PM.

    Good to know!
I walk the east side of Newkirk plaza everyday. With all the fencing, I never would have know this existed just a few feet away….

Candy and Nuts! Yes! I’m gonna have to stop by… I don’t go through that plaza much now that the weather is so cold.

That baclava in the window looks delicious, sprinkled with pistachios.

I went in the other day to check it out. The guys were really nice and it seems like they are open to suggestions of things to order. This is a very welcome addition to Newkirk Plaza. And I agree with Melissa that if you get out of the train on the other side, you could easily miss this place, so spread the word!

I stopped in yesterday to check it out. The prices seemed quite reasonable — much cheaper than the co-op, though I’m guessing nothing is organic.

Green Mountain Coffee! I will be in there tomorrow morning. Thanks for letting us know about this place; I too walk primarily on the east side of the plaza.

Stopped in and was pleasantly suprised to find Green Mtn Coffee for a buck, which is a rare occurence these days.

The place has a random and somewhat bizarre mix of products, mostly of the gourmet European variety (think Golden Farms non-perishable stuff), in addition to the nuts, dried fruit and chocolate.

The guy was really nice and helpful and I hope people stop in to try to get them going. They do organic milk, and probably some other products that would qualify as organic.

Tried the Baklava today. Delicious! Will definitely go back for more. The owners are also very nice.

I totally agree. What a great addition to the neighborhood! I used to manage a similar store in Brighton Beach and the prices at Kings are even lower!

Below I have made a list of some of the items they carry:

Dried Fruits, Nuts and Seeds, Fresh Baklava and Bakery Goods, Green Mountain Coffee, Organic Milk and Dairy Products, Cookies, Lindt, Joya and other Chocolates, Hard and Sugar Free Candies, Honey, Preserves, Olives, Meat Products, Smoked Salmon, a Large Selection of Teas and Juices and Gourmet Specialty Foods

I know that they are thinking of bringing in breakfast pastries…perhaps Turkish boreks, simit, achma and/or poucha (if you are Turkish, please excuse my spelling errors!).

If that or any other products would be of interest to you please let Kabir know, they really want to cater to the neighborhood!

Checked out the place today- great variety of nuts, pastries, and Mediterranean specialty foods. My one complaint is that many of the bulk bins do not seal and some of the lids to the bins were already malfunctioning- leaving potential for critters to sample to goods as well. I hope they fix this problem soon. It is a really nice place and I would like to make it a place I regularly shop.

I stopped by yesterday and got a huge selection of Mediterranean specialty foods for snacks, for a very reasonable price. I will definitely go back!
