Lahori Gyro King

Friday, September 10th, 2010

There seem to be quite a few Gyro Kings around up and down Coney, and the one coming on Newkirk, with quite loyal neighborhood following. Neighbor Jenna sends over her endorsement and scanned menu – of the guys on CIA just north of Cortelyou (by the B68 stop):

Give them a whirl, they’re really sweet, always super friendly, and the food is tasty and cheap!  Their fried chicken is always wonderfully crispy (i like it better than kfc, and i like supporting local mom and pop shops, especially in our little stretch of brooklyn).  Their gyros are yummy and very generous.  Made to order, they come toppling with tons of meat and whatever your heart desires.  They make it right in front of you, and it’s super fast.  I always like to stop in when I’m taking the B68 up to the F train for lunch or a snack before heading out.  They also deliver, and it’s free.  They have other menu items which I haven’t gotten to yet, but all looks yummy, (and again, very reasonably priced).  I also tried their falafel which was very good, and they always throw in little extras like a samoa (yum!) or extra piece of chicken.  They only serve Halal.  Go see them!  They’re open late, too.

I love your blog. I do not live in Ditmas Park, but my roots are there. My Mom lived at 405 Westminster –so did I. My cousin was a doctor at the corner of Ditmas and CIA. So please help me. You give glowing reports of restaurants, etc. (see above), without giving names or addresses! My old neighborhood has changed so, and you are keeping me in a state of confusion.

Pizza + Fried Chicken + Gyro usually a bad sign. Anybody had their Indian food? I’m a samosa chaat junkie.

I’ve been here many many times already, and I can definitely recommend it – particularly the Chicken Over Rice – $5 gets you 2 meals worth of chicken, rice, and fresh (actually good!) salad. Their falafel is great too. Super friendly, cheap eats. Would I get pizza there? No… but you can tell that pizza isn’t really their thing. Their samosas and the rest of their Indian menu looks good too – it’s nice at least to have a selection.

They’re very friendly, and for cheap, quick, and dare I say moderately healthy eats, it’s a great place to have around the corner.
