Lunch @ San Remo

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I keep thinking of San Remo as a place to just get a slice of pizza or order a pie (despite them having a full kitchen), and  I had actually never tried to have lunch there. So today I did – we each ordered a cup of their Italian Wedding soup ($3) and split the spinach roll,  which was gigantic ($4). It was plenty of food, the total came to $10, and it was absolutely perfect for the kind of freezing cold day it is outside. The room in the back felt really warm, bright and happy.

It may have had something to do with the fact that it seemed like half the tot lot was having lunch there. We’re told its a Friday kind of thing, (they even had cartoons on the TV), but what’s best – the staff really seemed to like having all those little customers. Check it out!

San Remo’s menu is now online at their new website www.sanremobrooklyn.com, for when you want to order something other than “the usual”.

What I like about Cortelyou there is variety. Italian wedding soup…great I will try it. For pizza I will stick to Angelo’s.

“Half the tot lot”? “cartoons on the tv?” Thanks for the warning.

We love the San Remo dining room…Try “Eggplant Marinara:” baked eggplant layered with spinach, covered with their wonderful sauce. No cheese, so it’s healthy(er) than many of the alternatives, and really delicious. Comes with pasta or salad, so it’s a great vegetarian meal.
