Prospect Park Road Sharing Taskforce Meeting This Wednesday

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Following another terrible accident in Prospect Park in which a pedestrian was struck by a bicycle, leaving the pedestrian in critical condition and a medically-induced coma, the Prospect Park Road Sharing Taskforce will meet this Wednesday to discuss safety along the Park Drives.

The Taskforce was created earlier this year in response to a number of accidents between pedestrians and cyclists. One such incident over the summer led to a petition for better safety measures, like better yielding devices and more enforcement.

The meeting is open to the public, so if you’ve got concerns, please show up and voice them.

For more information, contact Eric Landau, Vice President of Government and Community Affairs, Prospect Park Alliance, at 718-965-8953 or elandau@prospectpark.org.

Yes, but was the cyclist smoking a cigarette? That’s the real question here.

  • Concerned Community Member

    that’s terrible.

The Prospect Park cyclists don’t stay in the bike lane in the morning and challange motorists by riding 2 or 3 abreast in the car lanes.  Because they can’t abide by the rules, they should lose the bike lanes.

Their attitude that they’re above the law must end.

  • James

Disgruntled — I’m not a fan of these guys either (as a biker and user of the park), but you should probably check your speedometer.  I bet these cyclists are usually at or above the speed limit.  You should think about abiding by the rules too and drive 25 mph.  Yes.  25 mph.  (or slower)  How often do you go that slowly?!  Your attitude may need a little look-see too!

  • James

How about… Because they can’t abide by the rules, cars should lose the car lanes.

The Dutchmen are laughing at us.  Listen to them laugh.

  • Art Vandelay

Let them laugh. Soon they’ll all be in a coma.
