Ditmas Detective Solved: Soap at the Flatbush Food Co-op

Monday, February 6th, 2012

As the majority of you correctly guessed (though second place “Andrew Weakland’s bathroom” probably would have gained in votes if I let this go on any longer), this week’s mystery photo is of the soap stand in the Flatbush Food Co-op on Cortelyou Road. They’re made by The Soap Works, a Canadian company that makes soaps with natural ingredients and very little packaging to create the smallest environmental footprint they can.

First of all, the FB food-coop rocks!  As for the roaches, this is freakin’ NYC..they are everywhere!  Wah wah wah!  Cry me a river!  As for the prices, have any of you people been to other coops/organic food places around the neighborhood?  What about Park Slope?  The prices are decent in comparison.  If you want the prices to go down, write to Monsanto and other big food corporations and tell them to stop being a-holes!

Well, it’s great to hear you don’t mind living amidst vermin but I grew up in Brooklyn, and have never gotten used to the filth others seem to think is par for the course. Guess my standards are too high!

People might be confusing the bagel shop’s issues with the co-op because of comments on that thread about the soup lady.  Our integrated pest management reports indicate no roach activity at the co-op.  We would not sell food to anyone that we wouldn’t give our own children.

If the co-op had roaches, they would be organic, and they only eat  the vegies…
