To The Kent: Thank You!

Monday, July 19th, 2010

A neighbor emails:

Had to drop a note about this weekends experience at the neighborhood Kent Theater.  My son and I arrived on bikes, moments before the Sunday matinee only to realize we had forgotten our locks.  The guy at the counter smiled, ushered us in and placed our bikes in the “bike corner” where he kept an eye on them until the show was over.  I can’t imagine that happening at another theater in NYC.

The Kent movie theater is located at 1170 Coney Island Avenue, (ave H) – a nice walk or a short bike ride for most of the folks around here.

The Kent is a reminder of old things past…I never had to wait in line for any new movie, I can sneak in outside food, the price is right, and the previews are not as long as the ripoff theaters elsewhere…lets hope it does not become a ripoff when they go 3-D!

This is another reason why I love this neighborhood.

I love the Kent. I wish I could buy it and renovate it.

It doesn’t excuse the sticky floors, broken chairs, cramped theaters, off balance/ not-level movie projectors and unreliable staff. You get less than what you pay for, which is a severly sub-par moviegoing experience.

The People who own/operate the KENT Theater are genuinely beautiful people. They have done many good deeds. Including countless give-a-ways for fund raisers at my sons school P.S.217. I wish all those blessings get back to them twofold.
