Thank you for writing about this incident on Marlborough Road. As a neighbor around the corner, and as a Jew, I greatly appreciate this update. Police have been parked outside the house since Sunday and seem to be patrolling the neighborhood. At least in this case, their presence is appreciated, as is coverage on this blog.

Harold, start a blog then. And good luck covering everything every reader deems fair, unbiased, important, timely, and within your blog's state purpose. The posters cannot win - if they post about something they are criticized for what they don't post. If they didn't report it, who knows what would have been written about their lack of posting.

The Mineo is "officially" not in DP but is also well known and covered. If little known stories outside of our little slice are covered (like the ones you mention), it's (I assume) because they are potentially interesting to DP neighbors or timely and NOT as covered as the Mineo case.

I don't see this blog as anything but a great place to get local information and also information that might be interesting to locals. Those are two different things.

Sometimes information about close neighborhoods fall into the second category, though they aren't IN DP. And many times, things that are in the local area beyond DP are covered enough in other media not to be mentioned.

" the Mineo case is a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers" wow thank you for that liltle tid-bit. Was the stabbing you reported on tennis court also "a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers" last time I checked tennis court is not in ditmas park. How about the story you posted about the "mysterious white can" on Parkside and ocean avenue? Was that also " a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers"? After all parkside is actually in prospect park lefferts garden. How convenient is it for this blog to arbitrarily proclaim what is "a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers" this blog has covered stories as far back as mcdonald avenue in Kensington, but just a few blocks down on prospect park, a cop is charge with sodomizing another human being, and yet " the case is a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers." you must really think your readers are stupid to believe that. I checked that link. No mention of that case on that blog either. It seems that you people have an issue with the only blog I've seen so far that covers this area with any real sense of human dignity. The outrage over a guy writting anti-semetic words on snow, as deplorable as that is, cannot be compared with state sponsored harassment and illegal activities by the police, just a few blocks from ditmas park and yet I know "the Mineo case is a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers." god help us all. The lack of sensitivity and faux outrage is somewhat irritating. If you truly want to fight racism and have equality, fight for all, not just for your own little tribalistic special interest. This blogs comes across as small minded, petty, materialistic and lacks any sense of greater purpose.

It would not be hard to identify and capture this person...at all. The owner of the home on Marlborough Road and/or his neighbors should just whip out a digital camera and take some pictures (or video). Pics go to police, police apprehend the egg thrower, problem solved.

I know it's OT, but Hawthorne Street is a great blog, and even though I live in DP, I check it sometimes too - glad to see it mentioned!

I haven't ever had much luck convincing people in the comments section to turn down the temperature...but here goes: I think you're reading too much into this - the Mineo case is a bit outside the tiny slice of the city this blog covers, and so we haven't covered it. But that's really all. The allegations are hideous thing, seem to have strong witness support, and echo the Abner Louima case, which remains a huge stain on the 70th precinct. We'd be all over a big police brutality case in this micro-beat we cover.

For those who want to read more, here's the summary and latest from the Times http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/m/michael_mineo/index.html .

ALSO: There is a neighborhood blog in Prospect Lefferts that's provided regular updates on the case, http://www.hawthornestreet.com/.

Will you ever write about the disturbing news that happened on prospect park train station? A cop was charged with sodomizing a man. There's a court case happening right now. It seems that there's only one blog that is writting about that. Why the silence when it comes to disturbing news with the nypd? Why are you protected them? What's the deal here? The incidence you reported is indeed disturbing. No one should be targeted because of their religion, but is that any worse then racial profiling? Why don't you have the same compassion for the countless African American men who are daily targets by the nypd. After all an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. Your selective outrage is indeed an injustice to all of us who has had the indignity to be targeted for who we are.

No action/response from the NYPD Bias Crimes Unit? This is far from insoluble - either by government or private action. What's more - it should be intolerable - regardless of which group is being harassed.

To the extent that it may be protected speech - writing in the snow may be a legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights - one has no privacy interest in actions in public. In other words, one may have a right to write in snow on public land. The community has a right to observe it.

This incident shouldn't be regarded as harmless; it's intended to intimidate one person or household. If there's no community response, there's a risk that the offender will feel emboldened.
