Jacobs v Adolphe

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Brooklyn Paper hosts a debate between incumbent Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs and challenger (for the third time) Michele Adolphe. Required watching for anyone going to vote in the primaries on September 14th in the 42nd District.

The interview/debate starts off rather hostile, with Jacobs defending her decision to also collect state pension. Then it turns to demographics, and who would better represent the district, and what has been done in the name of the voters in the 32 years Rhoda Jacobs has been in office.

By the end of the almost one hour long piece, it was striking how given that most of the district extends way over across Flatbush, both ladies seemed very familiar with Cortelyou Road. When asked, Jacobs very diplomatically would not tell which was her favorite restaurant in the district, while Adolphe mentioned Picket Fence (on Cortelyou ) and Mamma Lucia’s (we presume on Foster & E17th), the former definitely in Jim Brennan’s district. When asked about milk, talk went to organic, and how much that would be at the Flatbush Food Coop (for the sake of exactness – again – not in the district).

And lastly – let’s not even talk about books.

Hmm. That wasn’t exactly an inspiring spectacle. What is up with our elected representatives?

Rhoda would be expected to be familiar with the Cortelyou restaurant scene, given her office’s location there. I don’t have a deep or robust knowledge of Rhoda’s voting record, but she has always been willing to get out there and meet with even a small community group like our block association, and seems to work very hard for her district…

When will we ever see or hear a debate involving our wonderful Congresswoman. You know who she is don’t you? After all she has done so much for her district, her city, her state and her country
