So psyched.

chefesse says:
Wow. Now THAT’S a menu I can sink my teeth into. And those prices! lamb chops (TWO!) with polenta fries for $11! Five (FIVE!) oysters rockefeller for $10! Am I dreaming?
-
bean says:
miss the great basics of pomme

Leave a Comment says:
I think I like this menu better!
-
A-Train says:
Seems very similar to Visions’ menu. Maybe with this location people won’t be scared like they were with CIA.
Ahh, I miss Visions.
-
Rachel says:
I hope they have a good beer list!
-
Steve D says:
Okay, now we all have to resolve to dine at this place at least once a day.
-
Skylark says:
I am really liking this menu and it does remind me of Visions.
My husband and I really miss Visions. I wish Visions would come back replace Purple Yam. CIA was not a good location for such a great place-it had major potential.

A-Train says:
It seems these days “natural” beef, “handcut” fries and “homeade” ketchup is a license to make an 8 dollar burger 11 bucks. If this isn’t grass-fed organic beef, seems pricey.
-
Steve D says:
Agreed A-train. And I hate the buzzwords that get associated with food.
To my ear, “natural” just means consistent with the laws of physics. All food is natural in this sense.
And about a month ago I saw an ice cream container that said “Contains real ingredients”. Well, I should hope so, otherwise its pure fiction!
Then there’s “organic”. Something is organic if it is carbon-based, which all food is.
Yes, I know, we can use these words to mean anything we want them to, but that’s not to say that we should!
-
Sam says:
At least “organic” has some sort of legal connotations/definition…right…? I miss Visions as well, but I have to be honest I didn’t go there nearly enough — it was hard to walk past The Farm (and Picket Fence, for that matter) and not go in. Plus, there’s something a little odd about dining on car repair row.

i’m a little surprised by the fact that people didn’t go to visions because it was on CIA. it was on CIA AT CORTELYOU for heaven’s sake. you’re literally just crossing the street from voxpop…is it really an unwillingness to walk an extra block, the fact that it’s not in immediate eyesight when you’re walking on cortelyou, or are people really that disturbed by CIA’s appearance? none of those really make sense to me, but i’d like to know.

Looking forward to checking out Junction 583, although I miss Pomme’s brunch. I also miss Visions. They had friendly service and tasty food. Their problem – in addition to location – was that they failed to aggressively promote their restaurant. Visions itself was not the most visually-enticing place. They could have added some art on the walls and turned off the TV over the bar. But, they really should have had someone in front of the Q train station passing out menus and/or spread the word on the local blogs.

Steve D says:
I went to Visions once in a while. It wasn’t bad at all. It was an asset to the community and I’m sorry to they’re gone.
-
carissa says:
We had two terrible experiences with the food at visions. The people were great, but the food was just bland and not that much of a savings for what we got. Just sayin’- we tried and not going back had nothing to do with location.
-
carissa says:
Did I miss a post about when this place will open?
-
Sarah says:
The sign in the window says “please join in June”…
-
jlr says:
So sad that Pomme is gone, this seems like a rather weak substitute and not very appealing at all.
-
Jaguar_Gorgonne says:
This is like replacing a Picasso with a color by numbers. Too bad.
-
Alex says:
visions was a weird bar before they made into the restaurant. however, they didn’t bother to change the name or the sign or anything to make it look different (at least from the outside) than it did as a bar. if they had changed the name and promoted themselves as a completely new operation i think they may have had more success. to most people it looked exactly the same and they probably didn’t realize that it was a new restaurant.
-
Steve Jobs says:
This menu looks as underwhelming as my iPad.
-
A-Train says:
Not that it matters anymore, but to be fair VISIONS was fairly active both in posting on this blog and in coming up with deals, promotions and events. They used to have jazz nights, they had a brunch menu for weekends and had happy hour specials. They also used to run a fix prix thing with 3 courses for 25 bucks or free wine or some such. I think they even did trivia nights. So, they weren’t very successful, but they did try. Not sure I ever remember getting a menu delivered from the Farm.
Maybe a “cuter” name would have brought more people in, but if the outside detered you from giving it a try, I don’t know what to say.

inez_trrs says:
What happened to Visions? Is it still opened? if not, what took it’s place.

nycgal says:
Visions closed about 6 months ago, sadly (as it was pretty much our favorite place for dinner in the neighborhood). The food was very good and unlike the more popular places, we never had to wait for a table. I guess places like the Farm and Purple Yam have a larger customer base since they promote themselves to people outside the neighborhood.
So far I can’t feel enthusiastic about the new Junction 538 (even the name doesn’t seem as catchy to me?) Their menu seems very small and just not an adequate replacement for Pomme de Terre. I miss the brunch at PdT — that was a real treat. Last year I treated my mom to their Mother’s Day pre fixe special and (although it was certainly more expensive than the regular brunch) every bite was absolutely delicious from start to finish. A very memorable meal. My mom was disappointed that I couldn’t take her back there this year!

I visited Visions on its third week. The kindest thing I can
say is that it didn’t suck totally. The beef was tough and totaly
tasteless. I left vowing I would never return. It seems to linger
on as an occasional night club. Think Vox Pop without the ambience. -
Steve D says:
The menu looks passable, but “Junction 583″? I’m glad they didn’t feel compelled to choose a name that would stick with people and be easily recalled. I wonder if they considered going with the location’s latitude and longitude coordinates.
-
Marc says:
I will miss Pomme De Terre but what the neighborhood needs is a knock out fresh Sushi Restaurant.
-
Stale sushi says:
If you eat sushi at Met food it will knock you out for sure.
-
Westminstress says:
If Dave from PDT is continuing on as chef at Junction 583, I’m sure the food will be wonderful, and we will be regulars!
We went to Visions a few times. The food was OK but uninspiring, and it was always empty. I don’t miss it.
-
Marc says:
To “stale sushi” that is why I said “fresh”.
I would never eat Sushi other than from a sushi restaurant. You would have to be crazy to eat it from a Supermarket. -
pc says:
could any one please explain what the CIA is because everybody is talking about it here, I live in the hood but haven’t herd about CIA!
-
c.c. says:
It’s Coney Island Avenue!
-
Freddy says:
We loved Visions – great food , reasonably priced, nice place. But bad location, and poorly marketed. It had an amateurish air inside as well.
My faith in humanity was shaken when I heard about PDT – then I find out that NBC is cancelling my “Law and Order.” Oy vay!!

coolbrooklynguy says:
hmmmm, i can actually afford this food… ben, can u get us a drink list? holla.
-
El Mac says:
Is there a phone number listed for this place?
-
Marielle says:
This look great and definitely less expensive than Pomme de Terre, but why would you waste duck confit in a pot pie?
