I love it that the Oscars weren't on TV, but maybe I'm the only one. Sigh.

I had to cancel my Oscar party, and am now desperately hoping that my co-op will call Verizon and get Fios installed for the building internet. And I'm buying an antenna TODAY.

Down with Evilvision!

HD signals are free with an indoor radio shack antenna. Some clever people have even made them out of coathangars...

It boggles my mind how much control cable companies have in areas. ONE choice. No wonder prices are insane for basic services. To me, it's a total ripoff. As it is, I already pay for their cable internet, which I need, but find it outrageously priced. $50/month??? Ridiculous.

Amen! I called THE cable company 3 times in the same day. I described what I wanted over and over again ("My internet and home phone providers are none of your business, and not the issue. I'm calling you, the cable company, to give you money for providing cable to me, thus becoming your customer. Can't you just tell me what my options are and what they cost?").

I got three very different prices for exactly the same service from three different reps, all within the same day. When I would say, "Thank you for the info. I'll have to call back," two of them immediately said things like, "Wait! What service do you have now? What price did you see on the internet, because I can beat it? We're gonna be in the neighborhood anyway, so we can hook it up and you can cancel it later."

NO THANKS. I have a digital antenna that provides far more TV than I'll ever watch. I saw most of the Oscars tonight, complete with a banner (appearing for a few minutes early in the broadcast) explaining that the cable company and ABC aren't getting along. Earth shattering... Run for the hills everybody! Seriously, I'd rank this concern somewhere around #625,000 on my list.

Don't have cable. Watching Oscars on my digital converter, cable-like reception. I refuse to pay a ridiculous cable bill. And no, I don't want to pay less by subscribing to 2 services I don't use: a landline and 200 channels. It's like being asked to supersize your order for extra fat you don't need.

But don't refrain from enjoying them at 773.
