Rubin Wasn’t Behind on Rent

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Whisk owner Josh Rubin wasn’t behind on his rent, his landlord told me just now.

The Brooklyn Paper reported this morning that Josh was “traumatized by falling behind on the rent on his two-month-old establishment,” and neighbors who read the story weren’t sure where they got that.

I spoke just now to Chris Houghton, the president of the co-op that houses Whisk.

“He wasn’t behind on his rent – he wasn’t in any arrears with us,” Houghton said.

The Police Department is expected to have some more pictures of Josh later, and we’ll share them when we have them. We hope everyone covering the story can resist the impulse to sensationalize and explain a situation that remains unclear, and most of all that Josh turns up soon.

Thank you for being helpful and a voice of reason. Those of us that know Josh are all seeking information but speculation and falsehoods do not help anyone. Please please keep your eyes and ears open and continue to pray for the best. It is clear that friends old and new all care deeply for Josh and hope he turns up soon, safe and sound.

I’m just catching up on my blog reading and was stunned to read about this! I’d been wondering why Whisk had been closed for a few days now. I really hope Josh is safe and sound, and comes home soon. We’ll be keeping him and the rest of the Whisk team in our thoughts. ~Carmen

Perhaps, he is overwhelmed. The restaurant business can be pretty grueling. Maybe he just needed a break from it all. Nevertheless, hope he and the other dude that is missing are okay.

Did he live in the same building as Whisk? Maybe he was behind on rent at his apartment, not the shop?

he was last seen at his apartment on lawrence ave. (aka not the same building)

That’s completely irresponsible reporting from the Brooklyn Paper.  If they print a retraction, please let me know.  I’m not ever picking it up again, so I won’t find out on my own.

Since Brooklyn Paper has been owned by Rupert Murdoch, it has become completely unreliable.  They don’t seem to understand the concept of “fact-checking.”  Hoping for good news about Josh, and soon.
