I lived there briefly over 20 years ago when I was a kid and just moved back to the hood with my fiance. The layout of the apartments are very nice. We were in a 2 bed – 2 bath that was very spacious. I have very fond memories of spending entire summers in the swimming pool. It didn’t matter to me at the time but I’m sure folks would like to know that the building has an underground parking garage.

i live in Argyle Hall, and for the most part it is rather nice! the maintenance crew is on the ball, nothing that breaks ever goes unfixed for long, and the neighbors keep to themselves but are also very pleasant for the most part.

the one thing i have got to warn against is the pool!! that pool is so cold it borders on the illegal, even in the summer!! because it is in between two huge buildings, the sun only gets to it for about 2 hours a day (tops), and for the rest of the time it is in the shade. don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have a cool pool in the warm months, but it is too extreme when after 20 minutes in there, everyone’s lips are really blue. THAT i wish someone would do something about, even just filtering hot water in there instead of freezing cold. the kiddie pool is easier to deal with, it actually gets a little more sun, not to mention the usual ways that kids “warm” pools. *sigh*

What are the rents like?

The building is great, as others have noted. I love it hear and fear being priced out one day, since the location can’t be beat. We have a balcony, large 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, separate (large) dining room, and tons of windows. The super and doormen are great, and management (which is located in Coney Island, which is why they don’t know that much about the area) is generally responsive. We pay $1800/mo.

shhhh…stop talking about how great our buildings are! Ahhh, who am I kidding, it ain’t a secret anymore… I’ve lived in the “sister” building on Westminster for 14 years. I love living here…spacious sunny convenient etc (all of the above reasons).

The real downside? The is no insulation in the walls and ceilings and the sounds from your neighbors can drive you bonkers. Last tenant upstairs? KIDZILLA lived there…running, crashing, banging…oh lordy lordy…thank god they moved…. I’m lucky now, both up, down and sideways are great.

I also have lots of friends living in both the buildings!

I’ve lived here with my boyfriend for 2 years now and I love it. We live in a junior 2 bedroom and this place is HUGE [for example, the living room is 12 by 33 feet...yes, THIRTY THREE FEET...I almost peed myself when we first saw it]. The maintenance is impeccable, the doormen are great and the neighbors are super friendly. I’ve never actually used the pool so I can’t comment on that but, check this out: there are seven closets in here [one of which is a walk-in]. Verdict? I feel like I hit the jackpot in finding this place.

is there an application process?

We looked at the building recently. The junior 2 bedroom is actually the same apt as a 1 bedroom, but they have enclosed the dining room for the second bedroom and they charge $100 more (+?) for them. (It’s the same at 415 Stratford). We were told that the 2 bedrooms are usually rented to people moving from within the building and for those there are long waiting lists. Not sure if that is true. Nice apartments, though!

I’ve lived in Argyle hall for almost 4 years and it is great. I live in one of the studios which is really big enough to be a one bedroom. And when I first moved in the rent was only $900! I currently live in my studio with my boyfriend which is a challenge, but because the closets are so spacious and the layout is so well planned, it seems to work out. And I agree that the maintenance crew is awesome. So are the doormen. And in general people are very friendly in the building. Its a fun mix of all different types. My only complaint is that during the winter you can hear your neighbors, but compared to other large buildings it really isn’t that bad. And the pool is kind of a waste. I wish it kept longer hours, but at least its there at all right?
