There are two young littermates (about six months old) who are friendly, happy, and healthy who are looking for a home together. In case you missed it in the Ditmas Park Listings along the side of the page, Elvis the cat, reported missing a couple of weeks ago, has turned up:
Elvis mysteriously and miraculously came home on New Year’s Day after being gone for a month. He must have been trapped somewhere because he is very skinny, weighing only 8 lbs. But he is otherwise OK and I am soooo happy to have him back. Thank you for your help. And Happy New Year! I think it is going to be a good one.

Anyone lose a friendly black kitten? A neighbor found one, and is hoping to reconnect it with its owner:
A black kitten was found last night on Stratford Road between Cortelyou and Dorchester. It is very friendly. Please contact blackkittenbk@gmail.com, if the kitten belongs to you.

Diana says this cat, June Bug, was abandoned on her street and needs a home:
A little girl on my block told me that her mother had put the family cat out on the street.
Sure enough, a couple of weeks later, June Bug showed up in front of my building—very skinny and hungry. She has been staying with me and my 2 cats in my very small apartment.
June Bug needs a home!!
She is a young, high-energy kitty who is very friendly— loves to cuddle. She would do well solo or with another young cat or kitten.
She is a cute little pixie tortie, only 8lbs, microchipped, FIV negative and has a clean bill of health.
Call Diana at 646-942-7555 for information.

Two pets at Sean Casey Animal Rescue right now are very trusting, faithful companions who could use some great humans to make up for the crummy ones they’ve known.
Micky was a bodega cat left behind when a shop in Kensington closed down, and Marty lost an ear after someone wrapped rubber bands around it. Despite all this, both are friendly pets with a lot of love to give.
Stop by the shelter to meet them and see if either is a good fit for you.

In case you missed her comment, Anne reports that her cat Leo, who went missing when they moved, managed to find them:
As we were sitting on the porch, his signature high pitched yowl pierced the silence. He’s doing great and very happy to be home and resting. Thanks again to you and all of the people who posted on the blog entry. We really appreciate it!

Alison reports, complete with video proof, that Samo the cat is out and about again after a few weeks of indoor time, recuperating from some “fur issues.” She says:
I saw him twice today and he seemed *extra* excited for some pats and sweet talkin’. For all us Samo fans out there, this is great news!

Samo is ridiculous, originally uploaded by christheobscure.
A neighbor writes in to see if anyone has seen Samo recently:
My wife and I are among the people that look forward to visiting Samo the cat, usually in the middle of the block on Marlborough Road, between Cortelyou & Dorchester. For the past few days we have not seen him around (he almost always runs out from behind the houses to greet us). We are very concerned because the last time we saw him, this past Monday, he looked like he had been in a fight, with some small patches of fur missing and possibly a cut on his leg. He’s also been looking thinner and thinner, obviously very hungry when we gave him some food.

Neighbor Marina Valente sends in these pics of her Cortelyou encounter:
Last Sunday morning, after taking a yoga class with my hubby, we were heading The Farm for a quick tasty breakfast, when we ran into the bravest cat of the Ditmas community. Be aware doggies: don’t mess up with this kitty!!!

Based on the number of lost/found pets we hear about, this event from Dr. Courtney Perry is really needed! Following the event, they’ll have a scanner, so they’ll also be able to read microchips if you happen to find a pet on the street.
No appointment necessary to bring in your dog or cat to have them microchipped by Dr. Courtney Perry of PAWSitive Veterinary of New York. Microchips are about the size of a grain of rice, and when implanted under the skin, provide permanent identification for your pet. No sedation or anesthesia is necessary, the procedure itself takes just a few seconds and is similar to giving a vaccine. If your pet is lost, make sure they come home! We use ISO 15-digit international microchips from HomeAgain, a leader in microchip technology. Registration with HomeAgain not only includes registration in their National Pet Recovery Database, but also includes free access to their 24/7 Medical Emergency Helpline, Lost Pet Travel Assistance and More! So, don’t take the chance, get your pet microchipped! For more information about microchipping, visit the HomeAgain website at www.homeagain.com.
Microchipping Event: Saturday June 18th from 1-4pm
Location: It’s A Dog’s World, 593 Coney Island Avenue
Cost: $50 Special, includes implantation and registration with HomeAgain (a $16.99 savings on registration alone)

We’ve certainly got more than our fair share of feral cats in the neighborhood. You might think they’re cute, but they can be a nuisance, and living on the streets is not the best situation for them. One way to help keep the population controlled is through trap-neuter-return programs (though some will argue it’s not effective). From personal experience, having done some TNR last fall, our blocks definitely have fewer cats than before, but it’s an ongoing effort. If you see a cat with the tip of one ear clipped off, that’s a cat that’s been TNR’d.
When you take this class, you get access to free traps and cheap neutering. To register, email name, address, and phone number to lois@nycferalcat.org or call 212-662-5761 and leave your information on the voicemail.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting a cat, now’s a great time to find one at Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Through Memorial Day, they will be waiving the fees on all cats 6 months of age and older (donations, of course, are still accepted).

This group of cats has been in the area for 8 years, according to an older gentleman who feeds them. He says there was one more, but his daughter adopted it.

They are clearly pleased with their arrangement – they get fresh milk every day in addition to cat food.

Donna sends over this info about a cat who had some kittens that she is temporarily fostering. She says she has contacted Sean Casey and other shelters.
Beautiful Grace and her 3 kids are homeless and are being housed temporarily in a basement in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. The kittens are now 4 weeks old and they will be ready for placement in 3-4 weeks. The kittens were born in the basement and have never been outside. Grace is the sweetest cat I have ever met. She is very social and loves everyone-even dogs. She is very gentle and has never swatted any of her caretakers. Grace’s forever home will be lucky to have her. She is just a joy! She is gorgeous, friendly and in need of a loving forever home. The kittens are delightful beyond description. They must ALL be out of the basement in 4 weeks.
If you are interested in adopting Grace or one of her kittens–Marble, Lola, or Martian–email kittenslookingforahome@gmail.com or ring 917.379.1101.
