MTA App Quest Entry Designed by Neighbors

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Emma Assin, neighbor and past ArtSpace contributor, worked with fellow developer Felipe Flores on an app that will alert you if your train is delayed. Working as The Cortelyou Collective, the two created Notify Me NYC (available for Android here), which uses MTA data to let you know if your chosen train is experiencing any issues.

The app is currently in the MTA App Quest competition, which challenges developers to create new software applications that improve the transit experience of its riders. So try it out, vote, and let us know how it works for your commute!

Actually, one little comment – we developed the app, but it was designed by Haley Fiege!

Awesome idea, and very cool design. However, if my train is underground anywhere, it is kind of pointless or am I missing something?

    I’ll give it a download

hey seth – thanks!  well the idea of the app is more for letting you know in advance if your train has a delay, rather than being something you’d use while you’re actually riding the train.

so you’d set it to check on your train’s status to update you around the time you’d leave home for the subway in the morning – if you usually ride the Q train for instance and the app notifies you that there are bad delays, you could opt to walk to the F train instead and prevent time spent waiting on the station/stuck on a non-moving train!

hope you give it a spin and find it useful!
